Rhône.
u. 3 x 2 cm. 3 x scuffed labels.
The 2011 Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonnieres (which is a significant step up over the 2012) got a big “Wow” in my notes and is a brilliant Crozes-Hermitage. Cote Rotie-like with its perfumed floral, bacon fat, spice and olive-driven bouquet, this full-bodied, supple and downright sexy Syrah makes the most of the vintage. December 2013 WA 95
M. CHAPOUTIER ST. JOSEPH LES GRANITS 2012 (3)
Rhône.
u. 3 x 2 cm. 3 x scuffed labels.
Always one of the top wines in the appellation, the 2012 Saint Joseph les Granits is a blockbuster that needs to be snatched up by readers. I rated this 94 points on release, and it went screaming past that rating on this showing. Loaded with decadent cassis, blackberry, ground herbs, violets and leather-laced aromas and flavors, this beauty is full-bodied, low in acidity and has thrilling purity. It's hard to resist now (and I see no reason to either), but it will evolve for 10-15 years. December 2014 WA 96
